Boulevard Auto Repair has a long history of great services dating back to 1975. You can count on us for years of reliable service. Here are a few highlights of our past:
History
Casimiro Vargues was born in Moncarapacho, Portugal. At 18 years of age he was drafted into the Angola Campaign and worked in the Portuguese Army as a military mechanic and a private generals chauffeur. In 1963 he immigrated to Montreal, Canada, (where Nelson, his son, was born), and then to Los Angeles, California in January 1971,
where he worked for Auto Stiegler in Encino as a shop foreman for four years. Mario Pontes, who is also
Portuguese, met Casimiro in Montreal, where they became friends, and he later also moved to Los Angeles in 1974.
1975:
Casimiro Vargues and
Mario Pontes opened Boulevard
Mercedes and ran it as partners.
1980: Boulevard Mercedes
outgrew its location on 17554
Ventura Blvd near White Oak in
Encino and moved to the current
location in Van Nuys.
1981: Boulevard
Mercedes changes its name to
Boulevard Auto Repair, Inc. because
of the Mercedes Registered Trademark
Name Protection Act.
1988: Mario retired early and sold his share of the business to Casimiro.
Nelson then started working with his father full time.
1988-2002: Together, Casimiro
and Son
Nelson, ran the business
successfully.
2002: Casimiro retired,
and Nelson continues with the
tradition of excellent service for
many more years to come.
About Nelson: He started helping
part-time around the family's Mercedes shop at the early age of 10.
He learned about running the family business from the ground up. Hands on shop experience
(apprenticeship) were Nelson's form of education. From sweeping floors, answering phones, washing cars,
ordering and picking up parts, and then eventually to vehicle estimating &
servicing, and electrical troubleshooting.
All this has helped
Nelson become the automotive technician he is today.
Currently, Nelson is an ASE certified,
Mercedes and
Bosch trained technician.
He is also a
CAR-O-LINER Certified frame
repair and measurement specialist. Not only can Nelson help jump-start your car, he can also
jump start your life. Nelson is
Red
Cross CPR and
Community First Aid/Safety Certified for 2006/2007. He is also a
Certified
ADP collision estimator and vehicle appraiser. Nelson is fluent
in three different languages: English, Spanish and Portuguese.
He is constantly attending automotive training classes and
seminars because he believes a knowledgeable brain is the
most important repair tool any auto technician could have.
When Nelson is not working or learning more (all that he possibly
can) about cars, he spends time with his growing family.
